Outlander season 4 casting underway — what else is next?

Outlander season 4 casting

For anyone wondering about Outlander season 4 casting — note that it is already underway as we look towards filming this fall!

We know that there’s been a deluge of various Comic-Con stories out there about the third season and what’s happening with that, but we do want to point your attention to this news item. It may have been somewhat lost in the shuffle, and we know that so many of you out there like to look towards the future every bit as much as we do.

Executive producer Matthew B. Roberts confirmed the oh-so-glorious casting news in a new post on Twitter; there are a wide array of different roles that the show’s going to need with the setting moving to America for Jamie and Claire. (Filming will still take place primarily in Scotland.)

Now that we’ve said that — and we have a personal wishlist that includes Longmire powerhouse and notable Outlander fan Lou Diamond Phillips — we don’t expect many names to be announced for a good while. For one, casting takes time since you want to find the right person. Also, Starz obviously has the attention of its fans right now with the Comic-Con panel and the recent trailer/premiere date. There is effectively no reason for them to hurry things along too much when they can announce castings during more of a dead period in the news cycle — or when they are closer to filming.

Certainly, there will be a time when there is more of a sense of urgency to announce names. We figure that Starz wouldn’t want Twitter announcing the new additions for them thanks to sightings at filming locations, so expect some news before production officially starts.

For those wondering, Roberts also said on Twitter that he is writing a few different episodes for the season, and has no idea when a season 5 could be announced. Our feeling on that is that it probably won’t be until after season 3 finishes airing — that’s more than enough time for the producers to continue things along in the cycle in which they’ve done for season 3/season 4.

What more is there to report on?

We know that there will be a lengthy promotional tour for season 3 that will likely see Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan on various talk shows, just as we imagine that there will also probably be a wide array of different print interviews that are out there. As far as conventions go, we know that there are some official show ones taking place here and there — we’d love to see the cast make it to New York Comic-Con in October, but it’s certainly possible that filming for the fourth season will have begun by then. Also, the promotional tour for season 3, which would’ve positioned the cast perfectly in the New York area, will have been over for a few weeks by around that point. We’re just grateful for Comic-Con right now.

We do rather enjoy writing about Outlander during its production, so we’ve got a rather large embarrassment of riches ahead. We can write about the show, and when that’s over, we can write about the filming of the show. There really is no Droughlander here!

If you missed it…
