Once Upon a Time season 7 spoilers: New trailer analysis and more

Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time season 7 is a huge reinvention for the show, but you likely know that already. You’ve got new regulars, to start! Gabrielle Anwar and Dania Ramirez are two of the more noteworthy new additions to the show, but they are far from the only ones. Reign alum Adelaide Kane, for example, is probably the most noteworthy addition to the recurring cast … and we’ve got a further sense now of who she’s going to be playing.

While at the Comic-Con panel this morning, showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz were able to reveal that Kane will be playing a rather wicked role this time in the form of one of Cinderella’s stepsisters — Drizella, to be precise. If you know the origin story for Cinderella, you know how this goes! (If you missed it, Ramirez, pictured above, is going to be taking on the Cinderlla role. It’s a very different sort of presentation than the one that existed previously with Jessy Schram.)

Meanwhile, Anwar is set to play the part of the wicked stepmother for Cinderella, Media Cox of Chicago Med fame will be Tiana from The Princess and the Frog, and Rose Reynolds (a relative newcomer to American viewers) is going to play the new version of Alice. Kitsis and Horowitz joked that it was easier to have multiple versions of this character, given that nobody really watched Once Upon a Time in Wonderland beyond a select few. This is a rare case where it’d be fun to see a version of the character that is closer to the Disney interpretation.

Overall, this is a substantial new group of characters, but if we are to start to put the pieces together, it appears as though Lucy, who claimed to be Henry’s daughter at the end of season 6, could be the daughter of him and Cinderella. This version of her is one that he fell for back when he was traveling through different worlds in hopes to change the history of many characters. There are so many different cultures and places, after all, that were never explored! At the start of the season, we’re going to see Henry (played now by Andrew J. West) in complete superhero mode trying to help as many different people as possible. Whether or not he achieves that fully or partially is what remains to be seen.

Full trailer analysis

You can see the video below for the show’s upcoming premiere episode, and within that, the first minute or so is a regurgitation of the story that you already know. It’s obviously effective that what happens to Henry now so closely mirrors what happened with him and Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), and that’s intentional. He is now the reluctant hero who has to find a way to turn around history for fairy-tale characters in need — plus, his child.

This preview also gives you your first look at Regina Mills (Lana Parrilla) and Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue), but in this version of the show Hook appears to be a police officer rather than a pirate — literally the most ironic thing possible for this character. Regina, meanwhile, is sporting her Evil Queen outfit at one point, which is clearly enough to make us wonder if she’s traveled back to the dark side. There’s no major clue in here for Robert Carlyle’s Rumpelstiltskin, but he will be around.

The story for Henry appears to be epic (he’s got a motorcycle), and more than likely, there is a great deal to uncover in the missing time between where he was as a child and where he is now today.

Obviously … we want to hear what you think about everything we’ve discussed here, including the trailer, below! (Photo: ABC.)
