The Originals season 5: Candice King will return; are there Klaroline hopes?
According to a report from TVLine, the former The Vampire Diaries star will reprise her character for the first episode of the new season, though there are no specifics available as to the circumstances of said return. Caroline is one of the few characters from the original show we don’t have full closure on just yet, so we’re curious to see how her story is integrated here. She’s found a new purpose for herself helping supernatural people alongside Alaric, and there are certainly possibilities for so much story when it comes to her character on the show.
We’re not going to deny that there is a lot here potentially for the Klaroline contingent to celebrate, given that they’ve been long supporters of this pairing and of learning if they could ever get together in a more substantial way. Personally, we do see that it’s possible but also understand simultaneously that there are many different roadblocks in the couple’s way. For one, they do still have a rather dark history at times, and no amount of passion can overshadow all of that. They’re also in very different places in their lives — is Klaus really the sort of stable role model you want around impressionable kids at the school? We’re not sure about that, given his frequent habit of flying off the handle.
Maybe time has changed him, or maybe the passion between the two is such that it just cannot be contained. It’s hard to say for certain given that there are so many circumstances that we still need to be clued in on prior to the start of season 5. With such a huge time jump, we don’t know where Klaus is going to be living, what he will be doing, or if he is romantically attached to anyone else. It’s hard to imagine so, but he has had some romantic dalliances here and there in his life. Caroline likely also has no shortage of suitors, though she probably spent some time mourning Stefan after his death at the end of The Vampire Diaries. He sacrificed his future in order to further help others.
New episodes of The Originals will not air until the show rolls around to the new year, so one way or another, there is going to be a lot of time spent waiting to see precisely what happens with the story as we push forward into the future. More than anything, we just want to see the show celebrate its characters and push them in new exciting, directions. If there’s great material for Klaroline, we’re all about it — provided that many of the other regulars also have some great stuff going on.
