Should America’s Got Talent 2017 have wild card acts?

Tonight, America’s Got Talent 2017 brought us a lot of great talent. Should it follow it with some wild card acts? There were many great acts who advanced, but there were also some controversial ones who did not get through — we’re talking about Tom London, Darcy Callus, and Harrison Greenbaum, among others. these guys were all talented enough to make it to the live shows, but just didn’t due to timing and being on the specific show they were a part of.

Here’s the good news — traditionally, America’s Got Talent does bring back wild cards at some point, whether it be later in the competition or within the first round of the live shows. Often, the judges do choose acts that they would like to see again. This is something that we’d certainly like to see repeated on the show moving forward, whether it be with some of the acts that we’ve featured or some others that are still to come.

Given that the judges are only pushing forward seven acts per show, that does suggest to us that there could be a few wild cards down the road. There are great acts that sometimes slip through the cracks, and this is a course correction on that. Think about things this way — there are seven acts per judge cuts show, and then four of those. That means 28 acts advance from here, and then also five from the golden buzzers. That means there are 33 acts, and that’s far from an even number. Unless they are doing three shows with eleven acts each for the next round, they could add three wild cards and bring it to 36. That’s a great number either for three or four live shows, and it could help bring back some great talent in the event things don’t go as planned for some hopefuls.

So please, America’s Got Talent judges and producers — we don’t ask for much. Just give us a chance to see some of these acts again! We’re not trying to shade anyone who did manage to go through tonight; we simply want to see some more of the people who did not.

Oh, and one other thing — no wild card singers. We already have enough singers in the live shows as it is.
