MasterChef season 8 episode 7 exclusive: Gordon Ramsay wants a new captain
What’s Gordon so unhappy with? It seems to be mostly the amount of productivity that is coming from captain Cate, and the inability for everyone on her team to get on the same page and deliver food at the same time. The home cooks are at a pretty premier destination in The Belvedere, a high-end restaurant located within the five-star Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. With that in mind, expectations are through the roof — and Gordon’s clearly not going to settle for anything less than perfection here. Cold breakfast due to food sitting around does not equal perfection in his mind.
Does this preview spell doom for Cate as a contender in this competition? While it may be easy to assume that, at the same time we wouldn’t jump to any conclusions. If she does well enough in some other challenges and redeems herself, she could easily still last a long time and even win the entire season. Gordon as a chef/judge doesn’t expect someone to have a mistake-free run to the title; he’s more interested in the grit and determination, and wants to see more of how someone can bounce back after a mistake or two in the kitchen and prove that they are worthy of going all the way to the end. If Cate dominates future challenges, she should be fine.
At the end of this team challenge, we’re going to be seeing the return once more of the pressure test. The losing team has to take on a dish and fish and chips that is worthy of impressing the judges. This is one of those sorts of dishes that it’s easy to look at with a little bit more of a food-snob lens. It’s deliciously tasty, but at the same time, it’s probably perceived as being easier to cook than it actually is. If any of the remaining home cooks start to get a little bit cocky over it, there’s a reasonably good chance that they shoot themselves in the foot and find themselves going down the road to elimination.
More than likely, there’ll be another home cook eliminated Wednesday night, and the field will be narrowed down to fifteen as we progress onward in the competition. No matter who goes home, we’ll hopefully have an exit interview with them in the days that follow the episode.
Before you go…
We recommend that you check out our most-recent exit interview with Sam! Here, we discuss everything that happened to him and more of what he’s up to now. There will be a full review of Wednesday’s new episode up within hours of the episode wrapping. (Photo: Fox.)
