How Psych: The Movie will incorporate Timothy Omundson’s Lassiter

Timothy Omundson

If you’ve been reading CarterMatt for a while, you may know already that Timothy Omundson is one of our favorite actors out there. Just look at the resume: Psych, Supernatural, Galavant, Lucifer, Jericho, and so many others. He’s a guy who does a good job of finding great roles and then playing the heck out of them.

However, for well over the past month, our heart has hurt over the news that Omundson recently suffered a stroke. You never want to see someone go through something so life-altering, even if his recovery from it to date has been nothing short of remarkable and tremendously inspiring. He continues to fight on, and with Psych: The Movie set to premiere later this year, there were obviously questions surrounding his involvement there.

After the sad news of the stroke first broke, star James Roday (who co-wrote the movie with creator Steve Franks) explained what some of the thought process was. Take a look, per Entertainment Weekly, below:

“[Omundson’s stroke] kind of forced us to rethink a lot. First and foremost, whether or not we should be making this movie — if it even made sense and if the timing was right or not. Then beyond that creatively, how do we make that work?”

Following some talks with Omundson and his family, the decision was made to continue with the project. Franks also makes it very clear that one way or another, the actor’s character of Lassiter will be involved:

“There is most definitely a way that he appears in the movie. We haven’t gotten to that point [in the editing process, yet]. I can’t say for 100 percent sure that he will, but I can say like 99.99 percent that we did everything we can to get Tim in the movie.”

We’re certainly going to miss Omundson every second that he’s not onscreen, but obviously, the most important thing is that he keeps getting better. Beyond that, maybe this is all motivation for USA to eventually make another Psych movie, that way he can come back and be integrated into that storyline in a more prominent way. We’re never going to turn away the idea of more Psych, so now feels like a perfect time to suggest that and throw it out there into the universe.

If you missed it…

You should really also know that Psych is heading to Comic-Con in San Diego! This year Jimmi Simpson will be moderating the panel featuring Roday, Dule Hill, Corbin Bernsen, Maggie Lawson, Kirsten Nelson, Franks, Chris Henze, and Kelly Kulchak talking about the show and what’s going to be coming up next with it. The conversation will be on Friday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. in Ballroom 20, otherwise known as the second-biggest room at the convention.

Also, take a look at a first-look photo for the movie below via the aforementioned website. You can read more about the guest-starring roles for the project, whether it be from Charlotte Flair or Zachary Levi, over at the link here. (Photo: USA.)
