Ratings update: Shaodwhunters season 2, Stitchers, Nashville season 5

Shadowhunters

We’ve got another ratings update for you today, and the focus is the continued progress of Shadowhunters, Stitchersand NashvilleAs some of you out there likely know already, technically Shadowhunters and Nashville have already been renewed and there’s a little less drama around its future. Nonetheless, we do still think that we are going to find a way to have plenty to discuss here when it comes to all of them.

Of course, remember that (as always) we’re mostly going to be talking about live+same day numbers. This is one of those few constants that everyone can agree on.

Shadowhunters – We do want to start out here by getting some of the sad news out of the way for the Freeform fan favorite (not that there’s better news later on in this article), which for whatever reason slipped to its lowest U.S. audience to date on this past episode. In total, 455,000 people watching this past installment live, and of that, it also has a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Just for comparison, the premiere episode had a 0.4 rating and almost 1.2 million viewers. The show is also down around 200,000 from its season average, and the episode airing the week before.

Let’s just chalk this up for now as a one-week fluke, and that the show will bounce back. One of the biggest things that may have hurt it was returning from a short hiatus, given that this sort of thing does often temporarily wreck ratings.

Stitchers – We do tend to see trends from one show to the next in a lineup, and this is absolutely what we’ve got going on here. The latest episode of this series generated in total a 0.1 rating in the demo, and then under 300,000 viewers for the first time this season. It hasn’t been renewed yet for another season, and with its ratings being what they are, we do consider it a toss-up. The biggest thing working for it is that its budget may not be extreme compared to some other shows, and with it being on a network catering to young viewers, there are probably a lot of people streaming / checking it out via some alternate means.

Nashville – Finally, let’s turn for a minute to the country-music drama and its latest performance on Thursday night. It was a little more independent of the July 4 holiday, and therefore didn’t need to take a brief hiatus.

Alas, for whatever reason it also suffered a ratings drop. Its 0.1 rating is the show’s lowest excluding the special premiere (where it aired simultaneously across multiple networks); the same can be said for it posting around 630,000 viewers.

Hopefully, there was just something weird in the water this week, and the viewership for all of these various shows can come back. We hope so, given that we don’t want to see the summer become barren of great scripted programming.
