Outlander season 3 spoilers: Discussing new David Berry – Lord John Grey photo!

Lord John Grey

It’s not often that we get to discuss a new Outlander photo, let alone the debut of David Berry as Lord John Grey!

Today, we’re very lucky to be doing just that following up the first images shared by Entertainment Weekly on Thursday. The image of Berry (see below) is all sorts of intense, and it reflects perfectly where things are for Lord John, a member of the British Army, and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) in the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden. What unfolds from here may be one of the best examples we have of Jamie having exceptional social skills. This is a situation where the character very easily could have been left for dead, but instead, he finds a way to keep breathing and forges a friendship with Lord John.

Whatever testy early relationship that the two parties have is most likely the foundation piece for much of the exciting stuff that is coming on the other side for Jamie and Lord John in the future. Berry is playing a character who is a valuable piece of the Outlander universe — he’s so significant, in fact, that there are separate Diana Gabaldon works written entirely about him. He’s smart, shrewd, and he has some of that wonderful spirit of adventure that Outlander fans often crave.

Who knows? Maybe someday, Jamie and Lord John will be able to laugh about all of this…

We’re very much thrilled to see how Berry is further integrated into this series both now and in the future, just as much as we are eager to see what the onscreen chemistry is between Grey and Jamie. One of the things that we do know from hearing Berry share his casting story is that there wasn’t a whole lot of time for pre-show bonding — he got the role, and before long he was dragging Jamie around through the dirt and the mud.

About Frank and Claire

This is the other new photo released via the website, and it shows Tobias Menzies’ character (well, one of them) and Caitriona Balfe’s in Boston in the process of raising Brianna. If you were to just look at this photo, you would say “oh, she seems happy.” Yet, there are some interesting caveats here if you look at the image closer.

For one, note that Claire is not looking towards Frank at all in this image, and the entirety of her attention seems to be focused more on Brianna. Meanwhile, Frank seems only moderately engaged, and is not looking towards his wife, either. The center of attention seems to be Brianna in this shot, but we have to say that the entire room is immaculate. The wallpaper on those walls! We have to admit that this is what struck us almost as much as the beautiful window. Seeing images like this is probably one of the reasons why this era so many decades ago is considered such a beautiful time.
