Arrow season 6 spoilers: Who’s getting a new love interest?
Speaking per Entertainment Weekly, show executive producer Wendy Mericle confirmed the love-interest news, though she declined to say who the new Black Canary would be paired with beyond just calling it a “fun story we’re very excited about.” If you look at the possibilities here, Mericle already crossed off Diggle (rightfully so, since he’s already got Lyla), and we can’t see it being Oliver based on the current story momentum. If her new romantic partner is someone who regularly appears on Arrow, there aren’t all that many eligible possibilities left.
Quentin Lance – This would be interesting given that they’ve both been through a lot — but wouldn’t it be a little weird for him to date the new Black Canary given that the old one was his daughter? We know they’re different people and not related, but still.
Rene Ramirez – This is the obvious and therefore the most-likely choice, given that they work together often, he’s also been through a lot, and they don’t have to keep any secrets. Also, we think that Dinah could help to ground him more and be a good mother to his kid if Rene can ever get her back after what happened at the end of this past season.
There are certainly some recurring characters here or there who could be interesting, and we do also wonder if we’re going to ever see Ragman on the show again. For now, though, we’re preparing to ‘ship Wild Canary if that is a ‘ship name just because it’s one of the pairings that does at present make the most sense.
There’s of course plenty to come beyond just romance
Clearly, Arrow is not a love story, and there are some other major events that are coming this season. The premiere will resolve the explosion cliffhanger from the end of season 5, and we should get a good sense of who the Big Bad / Big Bads for the season are within the first several weeks if we’re lucky. The show obviously should do something a little bit different than Prometheus this time and look more for someone who is a threat to all of Star City rather than just a psychopath who is out to destroy the Green Arrow. Variety is one of the things that makes this show strong, and it needs to avoid repeating itself if at all possible.
