The Fosters season 5 spoilers: Maia Mitchell teases Callie’s story
In teasing up some of these stories and struggles even further for her character, Mitchell had the following to say in a new interview with Just Jared Junior:
“Season five is a real turning point for Callie. The situation that plays out in our premiere episode is a huge wake-up call for Callie that she can’t keep making these dangerous, impulsive decisions and it really informs her choices moving forward … You see her making huge efforts to be more grounded, she invests a lot of her energy in her art and really tries to anchor herself in that space and explore who she is as an artist. Of course it may not always work! But she’s trying.”
Basically, Callie needs to just figure out how to plan better, and ensure that she stays grounded enough to realize that she doesn’t need to make a change immediately — or at the expense of herself in the process. She can take a minute, pause, think things over, and then from there figure out precisely what she wants to do. This is something that she may have some help in doing thanks to a few sources. For one, she’s got her relationship now with Aaron gearing up this season, and he’s been through enough to realize that there is a way to handle drama where you can come out of it okay. She also has the luxury of her own experiences to look back on and realize that there are better ways that she can handle things at times.
Who knows? Maybe in starting to change the way she thinks, Callie will be able to enact more of what she actually wants to in life, and move herself forward towards a career where she can have everything that she wants. This seems like her coming-of-age season, and that makes us excited since there are so many more places that the show can take someone with this much ambition.
