Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson set to appear in BBC One – Agatha Christie adaptation

Eleanor Tomlinson

Eleanor Tomlinson may be best known as Demelza on Poldarkbut she’s getting another chance to shine on BBC One.

It’s been announced that Tomlinson will be appearing in the upcoming three-part Ordeal by Innocence series, which is based on the work of Agatha Christie. This is a rather impressive cast as a whole when you look at the roster — Bill Nighy toplines the project, and then you’ve got (per The Hollywood Reporter) the likes of Catherine Keener (Get Out, Capote) Matthew Goode (The Good Wife, Downton Abbey), Anthony Boyle (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl), Luke Treadaway (Fortitude), Morven Christie (The A Word), Crystal Clarke (Assassin’s Creed, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens), Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Churchill) and Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness, Black Mirror). Pretty impressive group, no? We love Eleanor as Demelza, but it is always nice anytime that you get to see an actor you enjoy dive into some new, meaty, and super-exciting source material.

In a new statement per the BBC on the hiring, James Prichard, who is executive producer and executive chairman of Agatha Christie Limited, had the following to say:

“Ordeal by Innocence was one of Christie’s personal favorites, and I cannot wait to see how this outstanding cast will bring her story to life under the skillful direction of Sandra Goldbacher and the Mammoth Screen production team … To have Bill Nighy and Catherine Keener head up this all-star cast really is a testament to the depth and quality of my great grandmother’s writing.”

This news comes as Poldark season 3 is nearing the halfway point, and there is quite a bit of great drama ahead for Demelza as her relationship with Ross (Aidan Turner) continues to have highs and lows. One of his biggest issues is that he does spend so much time helping other people that he often struggles when it comes to helping himself. There is also some connective tissue between Poldark and Ordeal by Innocence beyond their network — they share the same production company in Mammoth Screen, who also works on another hit series in Victoria over on ITV. That show is premiering a little bit later this year.

Now, let’s hear from you
