Snowfall episode 2 spoilers: ‘Make Them Birds Fly’

Snowfall season 1

When Snowfall episode 2 airs on FX next week, one thing may be accomplished right away: Setting up more of the structure. We’re only going to be an episode into this story, which is about the burgeoning crack culture and so much more. It’s about a journey to self-sufficiency and survive in an era (think 1980’s Los Angeles) where such things weren’t always easy for minorities. There’s a Breaking Bad element to the story as well in that the story doesn’t expand outward from anyone who just loves crack and wants to spread it out of charity. This is about desperation and a need for something more.

Given that Franklin’s still in the early going of his business, next week’s new episode entitled “Make Them Birds Fly” is going to dive a little bit more into this. Just like with every other business of this variety, there are going to be some significant struggles.

Snowfall episode 2 synopsis – “Franklin struggles with the reality of his new enterprise. Teddy’s distrust of Alejandro escalates. Gustavo confronts his new partners. Written by Dave Andron & Eric Amadio & John Singleton; directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah.”

One of the larger challenges that this show is probably going to face is one of connecting all of the different storylines and characters — basically, weaving a cohesive narrative together constantly. The pilot has some tremendous potential, but one of the common threads that we have seen with it through the review cycle out there is that there’s a lot going on — and that’s true. However, there’s something to be said about giving viewers all of that in the early going, and then allowing them to follow all of that as the season progresses. As of right now, the Gustavo character is to us one of the show’s best, mostly because he’s a specific sort of guy who we haven’t seen on TV all that often before.

The runtime – TV Guide right now has it listed as an hour and a half, but that may adjust down before the episode airs. The premiere episode tonight is running for an hour and twenty minutes including commercials.

The new promo

This isn’t actually one of the next episode so much as it is the entire season, but it does do a good job of showcasing where the highs and lows for some of these characters are going to be. They will do a very good job of working to build a young empire; unfortunately, managing it will be a very different thing, and making it big is not all that it’s cracked up to be.
