The Bachelorette spoilers: Dean Unglert and Rachel Lindsay’s critical date

Dean Unglert and Rachel Lindsay

When The Bachelorette returns Monday, Dean Unglert and Rachel Lindsay are going to have their most pivotal date so far. He’s been a favorite for much of the season, but can he take the next step to being the favorite? As of right now, he’s a little bit behind Peter Kraus and Bryan Abasolo on the list of contenders, but we do think that viewers have come to love him a lot the past few years.

Also, what the synopsis about this date below signals is that Dean is going to have far more emotional moments ahead with Rachel than we ever thought that he would in advance:

“Dean spends all day with Rachel, hiding behind his sense of humor and masking his concerns about introducing the Bachelorette to his dysfunctional family. She is deeply touched by his incredible emotional story, but can she see forever with this charming man, who is a real survivor?”

What Dean does bring to the table with Rachel is a lot of charm, and a genuine interest in bringing her into his world. However, given that some of his world is chaotic, he’s of course nervous about making it work. For so many people, meeting the family is a significant rite of passage, and it’s probably so much scarier / intimidating when you’re talking about doing it with someone you’ve only known for a number of weeks. When you think about it, Dean can probably still count the hours that he’s actually been alone with Rachel since the start of the show, and of that time, there’s probably only a small percentage of it that’s actually been off-camera. Almost the entire time he’s been with her, there’s been someone with her in between a camera operator, a producer, or all of the other people associated with this show.

What we’re trying to say here is rather simple — he does still barely know her after all of this time.

Will Dean move to the hometown dates?

We’d say it’s likely, given that there are other guys still on this season that have been a source of a little bit more drama in one way or another. There’s also Matt, who still isn’t all that memorable despite being a penguin on the first night. We get a sense that this is one of those seasons where Rachel probably knew who she was going to pick fairly early on in the process for her final four, and there have been some stragglers along the way that she’s just had to deal with. She may very much like them, but the process of this show is that people do ultimately have to go home at some point or another.

While you wait for the next new episode…
