Doctor Who season 10 finale spoilers: Is this Nardole’s final episode?
With that said, getting a concrete answer should prove difficult, given that a certain actor in Matt Lucas is not altogether eager to give one. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Lucas (who’s been incredibly fun and a great addition to this season) made it clear that his future fate has already been decided:
“I do know the answer to that question. I’ve known the answer to that question for a while, but I can’t tell you the answer I’m afraid. It wouldn’t be fair of me to do that. But it’s been a great experience the three of us working together. I’m very grateful that the viewers have come around to the idea of Nardole because the character in his earliest incarnation was very broad and big. Over time, I was able to bring it down a little bit and explore some facets of the character and ways of performing. That’s thanks to the writing and also the direction and the other actors. I haven’t played just one character for that length of time before. So it’s been great.”
Let’s just say that the season 10 finale is actually the final time you’ll see Nardole. If that is the case, he’s already had a fantastic run and will be remembered as one of the more notable Companions over the years. It’s understandable if Lucas wants to do other things, given that he is rather talented and could’ve done more in Los Angeles over the past year had he wanted to. He’s also certainly going to have opportunities to travel the universe and be a part of the world — who wouldn’t want to have Lucas at a convention?
If we had to guess, we’d say that Nardole won’t be around for season 11; yet, we’re certainly open to him turning up. Our opinion on this subject is based mostly on the fact that he’s a busy guy and there are plenty of people out there who are going to want to work with him. For now, let’s just get set for an intense, action-packed, and hopefully moving finale that ties together most of the season 10 stories and sets the stage for the upcoming Christmas Special.
