Doctor Who season 11 premiere date: When should it air?
The first thing to note is that the show, thankfully, already has Chris Chibnall as the new showrunner. With that, he’s got some time to think about what new stories to tell. It’s possible that the new Doctor is also hired in secret. It’s a practice that has been done before, and it will almost be surely done again. This allows the BBC to have confidence in who they have, but also the patience to make the announcement whenever they feel as though they are ready to do so.
The earliest season 11 will air is 2018, and given that there is rarely ever less than a year between seasons, odds are that the show will be on at the earliest in the spring of next year — but in all honesty, it seems hard to imagine that it will be back that soon. Our sentiment is that it’s more likely to premiere in the summer or fall of next year, that way Chibnall and the writers have a little more time to get everything together. Hopefully, there will be a chance to do a continuous run of twelve episodes and a Christmas Special. If not, we wouldn’t be shocked if the decision was made to revisit the half-season format that we saw back when Matt Smith was the title character. You get the first half, then a special and then a chance to check out the last batch of episodes.
No matter what the show plans out, the biggest thing to note here is that there are definitely no plans for the BBC to end Doctor Who anytime soon. Even if the ratings do dip and decline here and there, it’s abundantly clear that this is a show with a devoted following, one that is absolutely not going anywhere in the near future.
