Shadowhunters season 2 spoilers: Fear Sebastian; seriously, fear him

Sebastian

We’ve clearly established on Shadowhunters season 2 so far that Sebastian is bad news. After all, dude’s holding someone hostage! He’s a total sociopath, and he unfortunately has a major upper hand on everyone in that nobody knows he’s a sociopath. The people who are the most dangerous are those you don’t see coming, and he’s already formed a pretty close bond with Izzy. Meanwhile, he tried to get super-close to Clary, and if she was either single and/or interested, that would make things all the more problematic. (Can you imagine Jace’s face if he saw that Clary was interested in this guy? Imagine the social-media reaction.)

There is no timeline as to when the big Sebastian reveal is going to happen at the Institute or with any of the show’s main characters; what we can tell you for now, however is this: When it does happen, you better brace yourself for a storm of trouble. He knows where some of the bodies are buried, and judging from the most-recent cliffhanger for the show, we mean that both literally and figuratively.

What we can offer you for now is the following quote from actor Dominic Sherwood (who plays Jace) to Entertainment Weekly, one that does offer up a little bit of insight into just how big the problem is with this guy:

“Not only is he this crazed maniac, kind of Silence of the Lambs–style crazy person, but [the Clave] welcomed him in … So now we not only have Valentine to worry about, we have this mole.”

Secret secrets hurt no one … in this case

While some networks choose to be rather liberal with the sort of information that they’re willing to give up in advance for upcoming episodes, there’s some bad news out there already for Shadowhunters fans: Freeform is just not into the idea. Sebastian’s name isn’t uttered once in some of the upcoming July episode synopses, and it’s not because they have no plans to use him. Instead, this is tied more to the fact that they don’t want to give ANYTHING away about this guy or what’s coming.

By the end of the season, it wouldn’t be a shock if there is all-out-war coming to the Institute — book readers probably have a little bit of a better indication of what’s coming in that department, but shows these days do have a habit of straying from the source material and you gotta keep that in mind…

Other Shadowhunters news to note

Alas, there is still no new episode airing on Monday — clearly, it’s too close to July 4 for anyone’s liking at the network. We’re not mad about it if it means that the show doesn’t suffer some holiday ratings bump.

What we do want to bring to your attention is our interview with Jade Hassoune from earlier this week, since it gives you a little more insight into his take on Meliorn and what’s coming.
