The X Factor UK: Simon Cowell slapped at auditions

Cowell slapped

Well, how about this for a random twist during The X Factor UK auditions? Apparently, at one point during recent filming for the show in Manchester, head judge Simon Cowell finds himself slapped by one of the contenders for violating a rather simple rule: Repeatedly asking a woman their age.

Speaking to the Mirror, a source had the following to say about the encounter:

“The woman looked like she was in her 60s but wasn’t willing to share her age with the judges.

“Simon kept pushing her for a number and so she ran up to him on the panel and slammed her hands down on his arms, giving him a bit of a slap.

“She told him he should never ask a lady her age, but the other judges were pretty shocked at her slapping Simon.”

While we do think that this was a genuine moment that happened during filming for this specific stage of the series, we also do think that this is something that the show’s producers did absolutely want to see. After all, just remember for a moment that any contestant trying out for this show probably knows that this is a question that is going to come their way, just as they know that Simon has a tendency to be a little bit needling with some of the contestants. While the source makes this out to be some sort of big, dramatic thing, we figure that it will probably be presented as a silly moment in the event that it does end up making it to the air (which we feel like it should, given that there aren’t many other moments quiet like it on the show already).

Aside from the slap, this season of The X Factor feels rather similar to the ones that came before it, mostly in that Cowell is joined by the familiar lineup of Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger, and Dermot O’Leary. Nicole was unable to be at one round of auditions so far, and she was temporarily replaced by current Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon for that occasion. These episodes will start airing later this summer.
