Game of Thrones season 7 spoilers: Jessica Henwick will return
In speaking via Entertainment Weekly, the actress made it clear the sort of bind that she found herself in when it comes to the show:
“I wasn’t able to do it … My schedule clashed. I was filming Iron Fist for six-to-seven months and they wouldn’t give me the time off. [Game of Thrones] was so massive for me in terms of my career and building my profile and as an experience in itself, I wanted to return. [A producer explained] ‘it’s really important that you come back otherwise your character will just disappear.’ So I spoke to Marvel and I managed to get a release. I literally was flying back and forth while I was doing Iron Fist in New York to Belfast, even during Christmas break.”
Henwick also joked that there was a part of her who thought that maybe the character could’ve just disappeared a la Gendry, who got on that boat never to be seen again. (Personally, we do think that we will get a chance to see Gendry again on the show and his role is far from done. Let’s just hope now that it proves to be better than what happened with Rickon Stark, who turned up in season 6 after a rather long departure, only for the character to be revealed to have a rather less-than-stellar ending at the hands of one Ramsey Bolton.
It is still clear that the Sand Snakes have a big role to play in what is to come, given the alliance that Varys forged with Dorne at the end of this past season 6. They could be an ally to Daenerys in the war to come, provided of course that they can all stay on the same page and Ellaria doesn’t get any ideas. (She does have a knack for being a bit impulsive, no?)
