Sizing up the field
This is a really great field since you’ve got a nice mixture of network, cable, and streaming shows thrown in here. Also, all of them should have teen-friendly audiences and represent different parts of the genre. We also like that there isn’t a clear winner here, either.
Who will win
If we are going just based on social media alone, we’d assume that Shadowhunters has the edge. They have the most active fandom at present, and they still have a little bit of that underdog spirit since the show is still relatively new to appearing at awards shows and winning trophies. We’re not ruling out The Vampire Diaries, either, given that this is a way to celebrating the entire series. Supernatural also has a shot if its fans really rally.
Who should win
While we’re not a Teen Choice Awards voter (after all, we’re not a teen), we would go with Timeless just because it encapsulates so much of what we love about this genre — adventure, ambition, and interesting characters. Abigail Spencer, Malcolm Barrett, and Matt Lanter are all terrific, and the show had an incredible first season. It’s only thanks to its fans that it even remains on the air to begin with after it was cancelled and then un-cancelled after the network saw the fan support behind the show.
