Criminal Minds season 13: Daniel Henney cheered by past, present co-stars
Earlier this week, the good news was first reported that Daniel Henney of Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders is the latest actor joining Criminal Minds season 13. As a result of that, suffice it to say that there were celebrations!
One of the first people to celebrate Henney joining the show was one of the longtime regulars in Joe Mantegna, who had appeared on Beyond Borders in the past and clearly knows the actor well enough to send him a congratulatory note online. Hopefully, these two will have plenty of scenes together; given Mantegna’s penchant for directing episodes, we also do have a feeling that he will get a chance to work with him in that capacity, as well. (Henney was last on Criminal Minds proper back during the episode “Spencer,” where he went off to Mexico in order to help Spencer Reid.)
Meanwhile, one of Henney’s former co-stars in Tyler James Williams was also clearly happy for him judging from the message that he shared online. We like to think that there are opportunities for other Beyond Borders actors to pop in on the show here and there, so hopefully this is going to be something that CBS considers. (We know it’s difficult since Beyond Borders is no more, but there were plenty of people who did clearly love the show.)
Henney arriving on the show comes in the wake of a wide array of other changes. We’ve lost Damon Gupton as a series regular, while the rest of the main cast (at least the ones who needed a contract) all inked new deals that will keep them a part of the Criminal Minds family for some time to come. Meanwhile, there has also been a change behind the scenes with Virgil Williams departing and eventually getting a new deal over with NBCUniversal. Erica Messer will remain the showrunner for season 13, a title that she has held for some time.
