Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler bring back ‘Really?’ from Saturday Night Live
So what is the meaning behind it here? Well, much of it seems to have to do with the recent Julius Caesar controversy in Central Park, which has been under fire for a stabbing scene where Caesar is depicted as similar in appearance to President Donald Trump. The moment is absolutely controversial and there has been backlash over it, but there are other Shakespeare productions out there to use other political figures in the role.
One of the main funny things that Seth and Amy hammer home in this edition of “Really?!” (which was a Weekend Update staple at one point) is how the protestors who decided to intervene with the production recently went through a lot of work in order to do so. That included standing in line only to then wait around and get to the moment in question hours into the production. That does take some commitment, but the entire rationale behind “being fake stabbed in a fake play” is a little hard to follow.
Are we dealing with the most unbiased crowd in the world here? Clearly not, given that Meyers has openly lambasted the Trump administration through many of his “A Closer Look” segments over the year. Nonetheless, is still worth a few good laughs, especially if you are a longtime fan of Weekend Update and you miss the two of them together.
Poehler is at the moment promoting her new movie The House alongside another SNL alum in Will Ferrell, which is why she’s appearing on the show at this time. This sketch gives us enough juice to be able to make it from now until August, which is when the Weekend Update Thursdays program is going to be premiering on NBC.
