American Gods finale spoilers: Shadow, Wednesday’s Easter mission
So, who is Easter? As it is revealed over at the link here, she is someone with her own deep history and mythology that is separate from what we’ve come to know Easter for in the past several decades: The resurrection of Jesus. She still does want to believe that this is a celebration about her, and as a result of that, this is what the sneak peek below is largely about: Shadow getting to see her in action for the first time. He also sees Jesus (or at least one of many of them), and that produces a funny moment to go along with it.
One of the great things about having Kristin Chenoweth on the show is that there is probably no other performer under the sun as suited to take on this Easter role. He just brings so much to the table that is perfect for it, starting with her enthusiasm and the way that she speaks. Beyond that, you then also have such things as her having some tie, just from her name alone, to the modern world. This is effective in the hopes of her standing out even more from the mold.
What you’re going to find over the course of this episode is that Easter and Jesus don’t exactly have as tight of a relationship as you would assume just based on the name alone. There’s going to be some division there.
How will everything be tied up?
It almost seems at the moment like that’s impossible to happen, so if you are an American Gods fan, we’re going to go ahead and tell you right now that you’re better off just taking a minute and realizing that there’s probably going to be a big cliffhanger at the end of this season. This entire first season is excellent, but it does feel more like we’re setting up for the eventual war than arriving at it in the finale.
What do you think about this sneak preview, and do you think that Easter could be a much-needed light to some of the Old Gods? Be sure to share below!
Of course, later this weekend we will be back with some further American Gods news. Be on the lookout for that. (Photo: Starz.)
