Poldark season 3: About the real baby Valentine Warleggan

On the Poldark season 3 premiere, you had a chance to meet baby Valentine Warleggan. Now, you’ve got a chance to learn more about the baby beyond the show.

One of the big surprises for many people out there may be that it is not a boy at all, but a baby girl, who plays the child of Elizabeth and either Ross or George on the BBC series. Nicola Monaghan submitted her daughter after seeing a call for infants to appear on the show, and in the end Olivia was chosen to play the child. You probably will only see small glimpses of her here and there on the show, and based on how the show tries to handle some time jumps coming up, this may only be a temporary gig.

In speaking about the experience, Nicole said the following to the Mirror:

“It was exciting but nerve-wracking but Olivia was brilliant. At one point they needed her to cry and they said, ‘Three, two, one’ and she cried.”

This is good news both for Nicola (you wouldn’t want an experience like this to be a negative one), but also the show itself given that working with infants can often be a tricky thing since they are so unpredictable and difficult to know what they are going to do and when they are going to do it.

The big role that baby Valentine has on the show is likely one tied to his parentage, given that Elizabeth is unsure as to who the father of the child is. There is reason to believe because of timing that it is Ross, but the sad bit of news there is that it’s hard to imagine him being a part of his life given his recent choice to cut off ties with this part of his family. Will that last? It’s going to be tough, given that Elizabeth’s own cousin Morwenna may take an interest in one of Demelza’s brothers.
