Aisha Tyler leaving The Talk, still set for Criminal Minds season 13
Today during the daytime series, Tyler confirmed that she is departing the show. The entire panel of co-hosts, whether it be Sharon Osbourne, Julie Chen, Sheryl Underwood, or Sara Gilbert, were all present for her final episode.
As for the reasoning behind the exit, Tyler posted on Twitter that she may have an interest in simply changing things up. Meanwhile, she is also extremely busy at the moment given that she is currently a series regular on Criminal Minds and has been since she was promoted last summer. She’s balanced a lot on her plate for a long time, and it’s understandable that she may want a little bit more of a break. This is all without even mentioning her Whose Line Is It Anyway? or Archer commitments that she’s had over the years, let alone some of her other personal projects.
Certainly, Tyler is going to missed on The Talk, especially since one of the show’s biggest strengths since inception has been its ability to retain much of the talent that helped it become so popular in the first place. They’ve developed a real chemistry and loving relationship, and that in turn is some of what has separated it from The View and other talk shows as of late. If you are making frequent changes to the structure and style of your show, it does make it all that harder to be able to get a consistent viewership behind you. To a certain extent, there are viewers out there who want to know what to expect from you when you are on the air.
The Talk may now wait until the fall season to announce formally a new co-host; this is what many other daytime shows tend to do, and use fill-in hosts as a means to both test out potential hosting combinations and also add a little bit of new energy to the proceedings. The big thing that the show should really take its time and find someone funny who suits the show’s tone.
