This Is Us season 2: Milo Ventimiglia on answers, further questions
Is there a tipping point where the discussion can overwhelm and railroad other talking points with the show? Absolutely, and you don’t want it to either overshadow other plot points or make it so that the show suddenly has impossible expectations for what’s meant as a character moment to take you along the timeline. It’s understandably why TVLine recently said that they are not going to focus much coverage on the subject of Jack’s death; they don’t want to participate in oversaturation. We do think that such conversation personally will be at the forefront regardless of coverage; with that, it’s our responsibility as writers and as an audience to remember that this is just a part of the This Is Us story as opposed to it being the only component of relevance.
With that, we bring you evidence that the This Is Us season 2 premiere will offer some insight on the subject of Jack, but also introduce new discussion points, as well. Here is what Milo Ventimiglia had to offer on the subject to The Hollywood Reporter:
“[Creator Dan Fogelman] is going to give an answer [on Jack’s death] but it’s going to beg a lot more questions.”
How Jack died to us is not really so much relevant as much as how it impacted other characters. You know already that Kate feels in part responsible for what happened, and that guilt is something that she’s carried with her for much of her adult life. As a result of that, it’s fair to consider this one of the main narratives that the show could focus on. Beyond that, the reactions from Kevin, Randall, and Rebecca in the moment are important given that the way Jack died further imparts on them how they choose to remember him.
