Why is there no Vikings season 5 premiere date yet?
Alas, there hasn’t been much in the way of announcements when it comes to a premiere date. We made it through upfronts, and there was nary a mention of the show in the process. With that in mind, you probably do have to think that the show isn’t going to be coming on this summer. If it was, wouldn’t you be looking at an announcement at this point? That’s somewhat of a shame, given that a summer premiere date would have enabled us to have some opportunities to discuss the show a little further when there wasn’t so much other competition on the air. (Rest assured that we’ll be back to discuss the fifth season no matter when it airs.)
The more that you think about the timing of the fourth season and also when the show finished filming, as of right now it feels fair to assume that season 5 will be premiering this fall. That means that it will probably be on the air by October or November, and following that, it may run until December or early into the new year if they opt for airing the season in batches one more time.
As we do get closer to that premiere date, it’s possible that History may start to gear up a season 6 renewal for the show, as well. This will help to ensure that there are no major delays in production, and Michael Hirst can continue tell the stories of Ragnar’s sons. We do worry that the endgame for Vikings could be here in a matter of a few seasons, but hopefully, it won’t be before we get to see more of Ragnar’s sons and their rise to power. This is one of the strongest shows on TV in terms of acting, writing, and delivering impressive action sequences. It deserves more opportunities to continue rocking out much of what it’s doing a great job at to date.
