Legends of Tomorrow season 3 spoilers: Billy Zane, Victor Garber reunite!

This is the sort of Legends of Tomorrow season 3 news that anyone can get behind: Billy Zane is now one of the latest new additions! The actor may only be coming on board for a brief role as P.T. Barnum, but it’s still a significant one given that it allows him to reunite with his former Titanic co-star Victor Garber. This is a show that does love to tap into characters’ past history. How else do you explain the fact that the DC Universe on The CW has already had three Prison Break alum on board in Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, and Robert Knepper?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, show executive producer Phil Klemmer confirmed that Zane casting, only to then go on to further explain the sort of role that the actor would be playing:

“Obviously, we couldn’t resist putting Victor Garber and Billy Zane back on screen for the first time since the TITANIC.

“But I’ve wanted to bring Billy onto LEGENDS every since I saw him in a friend’s comedy pilot. I’m not sure that people know how funny Billy is, although we cast him as P.T. Barnum because we knew that he would be able to find the soul beneath the larger-than-life showman. Truth is, Barnum never said ‘there’s a sucker born every minute.’ He was less a conman, more the father of modern advertising. A guy who made things ‘go viral’ before that was a thing. Sure, in one sense, he’s the villain of our story, but in another, he’s just a guy who wants to put on a good show. Anyone who works in TV can relate to that, right?! Anyway, Billy seemed like the perfect guy to get that duality.”

Odds are, Zane’s episode will be along the lines of the typical stuff you see from Legends of Tomorrow, where the Waverider travels back chasing some Big Bad and encounters some really memorable historical figures along the way.

With that said … wouldn’t it be interesting if the show explored what happened if a historical figure got a hold of technology that they shouldn’t have? Imagine the show turning someone once thought of as heroic from history into a villain, just because of the way that the Legends screwed with the timeline. While there’s no guarantee that they would ever do that, this is an idea that feels like it’d be all sorts of fun to see the show explore it further.
