Shadowhunters season 2 spoilers: What’s next for Magnus, Alec?
More than anything, it feels like this could test the relationship that is there between these two characters than anything that we’ve seen so far in the series.
In speaking further about what some of thee new wounds (which were reopened after what transpired between Magnus and Valentine in this episode), Harry Shum Jr. said the following to TVLine:
“He has a rally troubled history, so building upon that is really important … It’s not something he wanted to revisit. And it will definitely affect his storyline with Alec, hopefully bringing them closer together and giving them a deeper understanding of one another. Alec is going to become much more sympathetic to life as a Downworlder.”
No matter what they go through here, there’s a good chance that it will make the two characters stronger in the end. The problem that they are going to encounter is getting there, given that this could end up being an enormous challenge for them. Sometimes things do get messier before they get better, and Alec’s not perfect. It’s wouldn’t be a shock if he has some trouble trying to emphasize here and there just because he’s human.
For now, the two are going to have some other problems to deal with, especially when you think about some of the battles that are brewing between Shadowhunters and Downworlders. This will escalate in the coming weeks, and that could cause conflict for everyone. If Magnus and Alec find their way to emerge from the rubble of this and Sebastian together, they’ll be lucky. There are eight more episodes still to go this season, and within that, there are plenty of opportunities to watch things teeter in various directions.
