Is Still Star-Crossed new tonight on ABC? What lies ahead
However, this doesn’t appear to be the case tonight. Because of the NBA Finals airing Game 5 tonight, which could feasibly be the end of this season, the entire network schedule is being preempted. That means no new episode of The Bachelorette tonight, and it means that the Shakespearean drama is going to be taking a week off.
While this move may be understandable from a network point of view — ABC loves money, and they know that airing Still Star-Crossed gets them in turn a ton of money — it’s a little harmful for Still Star-Crossed to be placed on a hiatus so quickly into its run. Its viewers never had much of a chance to get hooked on the show, and now they have to wait until next week for another one. This show was already low-rated in the first place, and this probably doesn’t help their efforts all that much.
To be fair, the show may be looking at a fairly-limited run in the first place, given that the present ratings seem to dictate that Still Star-Crossed may only run for seven episodes in the first place. It’s being billed as a limited series more so than something that will be around for a long time, and what we see moving forward for the show moving forward will test that. We do firmly believe that if the ratings were big enough for the series, we’d see the folks over at the network choose to renew it for another season. However, the ratings at the moment don’t quite seem to be there, and with that in mind, we’re probably going to see it disappear. Remember that if you watch the show, be sure to do so LIVE! The ratings system is antiquated and non-Nielsen families often aren’t counted, but this at least enables you to live-tweet the show and share some more of your thoughts about what you’re watching.
