Ink Master interview: Thicker Than Blood artists Jhon Campuzano, Babiery Hernandez talk elimination

Jhon

This season of Ink Master presents a new twist that is very different than any other in recent memory. After all, the contestants are paired off by the shops they work for, and when one shop goes home, it means that both artists do as well. In the Ink Master season 9 premiere, Jhon Campuzano and Babiery Hernandez of Thicker Than Blood Tattoos found themselves headed home after a harsh critique from the judging panel.

Below, the two artists explain how they are proud of the snake tattoo they created, why they were fine to collaborate together this season, and also if they’d love to come back and take part in the show someday on their own.

CarterMatt – What made you both want to do this show?

Jhon – We think that being on Ink Master is a huge window for a tattoo artist career, and why not take advantage of it?

Babiery – The opportunity to show our work on such big scale and the idea that we can inspire other people.

When you guys were coming up with the snake tattoo, did you think you would be praised for your creativity? Were you concerned about straying from the challenge

Jhon – We believe that knowledge will only take you so far, but creativity is infinite. Being creative is a very important part of being a artist, without it there will be no art.

Babiery – Being creative and original is always being part of our priority when it comes to creating a design.

Was there any point before your elimination that you thought you would be leaving?

Jhon – No, we are very positive and focused on what we do, no time to think negative.

Babiery – We did know, though, that we were going home and we were very positive and happy of what we had done as a team.

Do you wish in retrospect that you guys had a chance to do the hawk or the alligator instead?

Jhon – We went with the feeling and that for us counts more than anything else, we are happy with what we did.

Babiery – We did what we believe we were supposed to do. I love how that snake came out and our Cavaz loved it too. At the end of the day that’s what matters.

In the end, did either of you like the team twist in retrospect?

Jhon – Yeah, we love it. We always work together so we did not mind.

Do either one of you want to come back to Ink Master and be on the show solo?

Jhon – HELL YEAH, we are artists and we work together, but if I had the opportunity to redeem myself or Babiery, the other will be happy that one of us is going.

Babiery – Yes, we definitely would be more than happy to be back ? and show our potential.

What is your best memory from being a part of the show?

Jhon – I got to meet different artists and the crew was amazing.

Babiery – We got to meet great people and build great connections; definitely, overall a great experience for us.
