The Night Shift season 4 spoilers: How the story progresses

Night Shift

If you’ve been reading us for a while (and hopefully, you do), you know already that The Night Shift season 4 is premiering on NBC come Thursday, June 22. That first episode is called “Recoil,” and will address some of the multiple cliffhangers from the third season — such as, of course, the ones where most people appeared to be near death.

Luckily, it does look as though most of the main characters will make it into season 4 … but the cliffhanger is far from the end of their problems. They work at a hospital, after all. It’s not as though everyone can just go into work and their problems are going to somehow dissipate.

For example, take a quick look at some of the specific stories coming during “Off the Rails,” which is the episode airing on June 29.

Drew’s story – He’s going to be in a position where he has to evaluate whether he’s prioritizing the right things as a new father. The impetus of this? Managing to pull off a rescue to save a young girl.

The medical crisis in the episode – A local amusement park accident sends floods of victims into the hospital, destabilizing the entire staff. This in turns means that the characters are going to need all hands on deck, and that of course includes Paul. In turn, someone may have to try ease tensions between him and his father.

Other odds and ends – In the premiere, you will get a chance to get to know Mark Consuelos’ character of Cain, an accomplished man who is far more than meets the eye. In this episode, let’s just say that Kenny could be handling this almost dead-on.

All in all, doesn’t this sound exciting enough? The Night Shift is still The Night Shift, so don’t expect too much in the way of fundamental shakeups in terms of how the show operates. Those may be better served for some of what you see with the characters. There’ll most likely be some romance, but also people trying to figure out just what they want from the rest of their lives and whether or not they’re truly content. Basically, it’s the same sort of stuff people always go through in life.
