The Exorcist season 2 cast changes: Geena Davis, others leaving
While The Exorcist season 2 is going to be airing on Fox this fall, it will be a rather different show than it was the first time. According to TVLine, Geena Davis, Alan Ruck, Hannah Kasulka and Brianne Howey, who played the Rance family at the center of the first season, are all going to be departing the show. They could still return in a guest-star capacity, but beyond that everything is unclear.
If there is a reason for this, it’s probably that it makes sense for the show to move forward to other people who are dealing with possession. Sure, the show may be dealing with things that have you suspending belief already, but you shouldn’t have to also add to this by then also throwing in there such things as having the same characters dealing with the problems year in and year old.
As for the returning cast members, rest assured that Alfonso Herrera, Kurt Egyiawan and Ben Daniels are going to be back in their own roles as men of the cloth, which should give the show the necessary familiarity that it needs while not drifting all that far from the show’s roots.
Over the coming weeks, some of the new cast members should be announced, and hopefully the producers can recruit a couple of familiar names so that there’s a way to attract some new viewers to the show. It’s great that the show managed to snag that renewal, but one of the things that they have to do now is find a way to grow the audience in order to ensure that it can get another season. Having it have somewhat of an anthology feel should help with that, as will finding actors who viewers out there have a certain degree of familiarity with. Anything that helps to ensure that The Exorcist does end up getting a season 3 coming up on Fox is something worth celebrating.
For the time being, let us know in the comments any casting suggestions that you could have for The Exorcist season 2. Remember that the show will come back in either September or October, so there should be plenty of opportunities for updates before then.
