The Last Ship season 5 resumes filming after hiatus
Multiple on-set sources have confirmed that filming for the TNT drama started filming over the past several days, and this comes after a hiatus marked by Eric Dane taking some time off to deal with depression. He made his first public appearance since the hiatus earlier this weekend at the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball event with his wife Rebecca Gayheart and his family; Gayheart is one of the co-chairs for the event, and this provided an opportunity for all of them to smile and come out as a family.
Because filming for The Last Ship season 4 and 5 are happening back to back, there is no need to worry about the hiatus impacting the premiere date. The important thing is Dane’s health, and now the cast and crew get a chance to reunite and work once more on creating one of the best cable dramas out there.
With all of this said, it’s pretty darn hard to offer much information as to what is going to be coming up in this fifth season, given that this is still so far away from when the show premieres and there is another season in between. (Season 5 could premiere in the summer of 2018, but the specific timing is not all that clear.)
When season 4 picks up, you can see Dane’s Tom Chandler find himself in a place where he realizes there is no way for him to leave the Navy in the way that he once wanted to. It will be both a new beginning and a continuation at the same time, where there are new characters, new threats, and still some element of hope for the future. The writers for this show likely would not have it any other way.
