American Gods episode 7 spoilers: Mad Sweeney’s story

“A Prayer for Mad Sweeney” is the title for American Gods episode 7, and it shouldn’t take too long to make you realize precisely why that is. This character will be a fundamental part of the story coming up, and the show itself is going to move further towards the finale with it. The fact that he is getting more of a spotlight should make it all the more clear that this is a character with a very crucial role to play in the series’ overall endgame.

American Gods episode 7 synopsis – “After an over-too-quickly reunion with Shadow, Laura joins an unlikely travel companion on the road back to life and back to Shadow. Mad Sweeney’s long, often tragic past is explored.”

In extrapolating some of this further, one of the big things revealed here is the simple fact that the reunion is “over-too-quickly,” which likely means that for at least one character on the show, it must go reasonably well. On tonight’s episode, one of the things that Laura realizes is that her own memories of her sacred reunion with Shadow may not be firmly align with his own. He may not enjoyed kissing someone who was dead and smelled like it, especially after learning that she had been unfaithful to him during life. How the story ends up shaking down for these two is going to be one of the central points of interest in the story coming up.

One thing that is somewhat interesting about this is that there isn’t much revealed in here about Mr. Wednesday, even in spite of his recent actions against Vulcan and the story that was set up there in proper fashion. Whatever his own endgame for this season is has to become clear soon — just remember that there are only two more episodes this season! That is not a heck of a lot of time.
