Is Grantchester new tonight on ITV? After the incredible finale last week that offered some devastating moments for Sidney, there has to be a thirst out there for more of the story.

Alas, there is going to be no payoff for at least the time being on Sidney’s romantic future, or the future for him as a member of the cloth. There is no new episode tonight, as originally this was going to be the Britain’s Got Talent final before things were moved around. (That episode instead aired yesterday.) What makes the wait for more Grantchester all the more frustrating is the mere fact that the future of the show is so unclear right now. There is no official word that it will be coming back, and hopefully this is a decision that ITV makes sooner rather than later so that they don’t frustrate their viewers longer than they have to.

If the show does end at this point, it’d almost certainly be a dagger to many fans given that it is still unclear if Sidney is going to ever get that happy ending. There are still many cases out there that could be solved, but given that most of those are all standalone in nature, there isn’t anything as significant happening there in terms of a major cliffhanger. Most of these get to be resolved by the end of each episode.

Ultimately, this is a show that needs to come back simply because there is so little out there quite like it on TV, at least in terms of it exploring the complicated relationship that people within the church have with the public in 2017. There are so many things expected out of you that it is difficult to know precisely what to do. Not only that, but it’s also incredibly challenging to know just what you are supposed to do in order to help yourself. The fact that Sidney does as much as he does already is remarkable in itself, but he has to find a way to compartmentalize further if he wants everything.
