Erinn Hayes responds to Kevin Can Wait season 2 departure
For Erinn Hayes and Kevin Can Wait, things are a little different. It was first revealed yesterday that she was being let go from the cast, and that Leah Remini was being promoted as a series regular. The reasoning behind it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with Hayes, and more to do with what some of the plans for the show are moving forward.
In a post on Twitter, Hayes for the first time reacted to the departure, saying that it was “very sad” and that she “had a great experience” doing the first season. She’s handling it about as well as anyone could, given that you would think starring on a series featuring a big-name actor as the female lead would be the sort of gig you would be able to hold onto for a rather-long time. This had to feel like a blindside at one point or another.
Hayes, more than likely, will be able to find some more work elsewhere. As for what Kevin Can Wait is plotting in terms of its own future, that is a rather great question. It’s possible that the show will write off Hayes’ character of Donna by having the two characters separate, or by throwing Kevin into his old job and changing the show completely into a workplace comedy that doesn’t really focus on his own life. Sure, the show could choose to kill Donna off, but isn’t that a little bit dark for a family sitcom like this? It feels almost like no matter what they do, this move is going to be a hard one to explain for casual viewers who sit down every week and enjoy the show for what it is as opposed to whatever they end up turning it into after the fact.
