Paula Abdul would return to American Idol season 16, but not as judge
The latest name to add to the list here is Paula Abdul, who was a part of the show for the first eight seasons before departing. She was the big star that helped to launch the show, and under her watch it became the biggest hit in primetime television for many years. She went on from there to judge on The X Factor and later So You Think You Can Dance, but now, it seems like her days in that capacity are over.
Nonetheless, Paula still wants to be a part of the show in some capacity. Speaking on the subject to Entertainment Tonight, the “Straight Up” singer made it pretty clear that she had little to no interest in being a judge on the show, but there is something else that she’d try out if given the opportunity:
“I don’t think I’d do the judging thing anymore … But if they ever called me and they needed help or mentoring with kids, or anything like that. That’s what I do, that’s who I am.”
A week of Paula as a mentor would be a BLAST. It’d add some nostalgia to the show, and Paula’s commentary was one of the best things about the original version of the show. It wouldn’t be right for her to return to the show as a judge, mostly because the last thing that either she or the show should want to do at the moment is go back to what it was. Plus, in between she and Randy we’ve heard so many of the soundbites before.
Paula also said “good for her” to the site in response to Katy Perry apparently making $25 million as a judge for the new edition of the show, adding that she certainly never made that sort of money on it. Whether or not ABC broke the bank too much with Perry remains to be seen, but for now, it absolutely feels as though they may have shelled out a little too much.
If you missed it…
