Kevin Can Wait season 2 spoilers: Leah Remini promoted to regular

Leah Remini

Consider this the Kevin Can Wait season 2 news that should leave fans of The King of Queens rejoicing in the streets.

As reported by Deadline, Leah Remini is being promoted to series regular for the role of Vanessa Cellucci, which she first took on at the end of the first season. This means that she’ll be spending a whole lot more time with her former King of Queens co-star Kevin James, as the two previously worked together for a solid nine years on one of the most consistently funny sitcoms on TV. This is a chance to see how much that chemistry has a lasting impact, even though their relationship on Kevin Can Wait as former partners is certainly a little bit different.

Before this promotion, Remini was previously attached to a new comedy What About Barb?, a play off of the Bill Murray movie What About Bob? that failed to get past the pilot stage. With it over, the door opened over at CBS. Beyond her scripted efforts, Remini also has her A&E docuseries Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, which she plans to continue pursuing moving forward following a special that aired on Memorial Day recently. One show shouldn’t impede the ability of the other to continue going strong. That’s one of the benefits of a comedy like Kevin Can Wait, which has an easier schedule to navigate than many other shows that are out there.

With this announcement, the hope here for the show is that it can attract not only a little bit better ratings (Kevin Can Wait already has the distinction of being the #1 new comedy on network TV this past season), but also some more buzz. In the Peak TV era, it’s very difficult to draw consistent buzz unless you are doing something that is socially-conscious or looking specifically towards millennials as your primary audience. That could be shifting soon enough, and getting a high-caliber actor like Remini on your show is certainly a nice boost when it comes to your own attention.
