Scott Pelley leaving CBS Evening News after six years

Pelley leaving

Is Scott Pelley leaving the CBS Evening News desk after six years in the anchor chair? It sure looks like it.

According to a report from the New York Post, Pelley is being effectively pushed out of his position, and will eventually return over to his 60 Minutes position. While he was far from the flashiest face in his position, and was also not the highest rated, Pelley did establish a pattern of consistently delivering the news night in and night out. This is not always the easiest job because you have to be so stone-faced while sometimes dealing with difficult subjects, and also travel all over the world for some field positions.

Pelley replaced Katie Couric as the face of CBS News at the time of her departure, and since his arrival there have been plenty of other changes in the network news industry. The most high-profile change was the departure of Brian Williams from his NBC Nightly News position, where he was replaced be Lester Holt. This job always had its fair share of difficult moments, but these may be on the road to becoming more and more evidence now in the face of everything that is going on with the whole fake-news movement and reporters being attacked simply because they are in the media and for no other reason. It becomes harder for people to effectively do their jobs.

Whoever Pelley is replaced with will probably carry on the duties with the same degree of professionalism that he did, and he will be able to go on and continue his career in a different capacity. Granted, it must be rather difficult to make the transition back to 60 Minutes after being the face of your own profession, but it’s still a job working for one of the most prestigious newsmagazines and there are people all over the world who would crave to be able to have this gig.

We wish Pelley nothing but the best. He did a good job in his position for many years, and oversaw some of the most complicated stories of our time. Moving forward, his replacement is going to have a tough job both following him and taking on more of the material from this time.
