So You Think You Can Dance season 14: Vanessa Hudgens to judge

It didn’t take too long for Vanessa Hudgens to find a new gig after the cancellation of Powerless — she’s now joining So You Think You Can Dance!

Today, it was confirmed that the former High School Musical star is going to be joining Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy as a judge for the upcoming season. She was apparently under wraps as a judge for the audition part of the show, and she will absolutely be a fixture on the panel once things enter the live rounds. She brings a lot of energy and a youthful perspective to the show, and more than that she is someone who has a history doing choreography and big dance numbers.

In a new statement, Lythgoe had the following to say about welcoming her to the show:

“I am so excited for Vanessa to join Mary and me on the judging panel for the 14th season of So You Think You Can Dance … There was instant chemistry in the audition rounds, and I know the SYTYCD fans will love her as much as we do. Vanessa is an accomplished artist and brings her own brand of enthusiasm and energy to our panel.”

Hudgens is going to get to do work that many people out there are going to envy: Getting a chance to watch people do wonderful routines week in and week out that are athletic, artistic, and and hopefully thought-provoking. Hopefully, she will add a little bit more in the way of magic to the panel. The other thing that we do like about her being on the show is that, hopefully, she is going to be bringing a little bit more when it comes to viewership to the show. After all, this is a series that does need a little bit of a boost to keep it from being perpetually on the bubble year in and year out. In between this hire and the back-to-basics approach, Fox and Lythgoe are setting things up the right way.
