America’s Got Talent: Why did Nick Cannon leave? Tyra Banks support
Well, to answer that question you have to go back to earlier this year, when Cannon announced that he was departing AGT after he felt like NBC was trying to censor some of his comments during the taping of a Showtime special. Specifically, he joked that the show was trying to strip him of his racial identity (in a much more blunt way than it’s being written here), and apparently some higher-ups were not happy about it. As a result of that, the two parties went their separate ways.
While Cannon certainly was not happy with NBC on his way out the door, he doesn’t have anything terrible to say about new host Tyra Banks. He’s been nothing but complimentary to her since she first landed the gig, and even sent her flowers (see the image below) after she was hired.
In the end, there is no bad blood there, and clearly he wants to see her do well as the host of the show this season.
Odds are, tonight you are going to see an enthusiastic, passionate Tyra as she hosts the show and we all get a chance to see her for the first time! After all, the audition shows are great for a new host to find their footing since they can build chemistry with the judges and learn the tone of the show. The live shows later in the season are more of a challenge since there are no multiple takes, and you have to get everything right the first time or risk having some gaffe that makes it all over the country. Whatever opinion we have of Tyra over the premiere, it’s something that is certainly malleable and could change over time as we start to see a little bit more of her as a host.
