Is Jane the Virgin new tonight? The season 4 theme and more
Not only was last week the season 3 finale for the show, but there is not going to be a new episode potentially until near the end of October. With the show moving over to a new timeslot on Fridays, the premiere date will probably be pushed back from much of the remainder of the programming that the network has. This is usually the case due to people wanting to stay outdoors on Friday nights for as long as humanly possible.
Now if you are more curious as to get some further news on the content of season 3, one of the biggest things that can be said on the subject is this: Be prepared for a little bit of lightness after a season that did have a lot of darkness in it — as best defined by what happened to Michael midway through the season. His death took away what was effectively Jane’s happy ending, but there could still be another down the line. This isn’t just some one-and-done world where you’ve got one shot at happiness before it’s kicked down the curb for good.
In speaking about this further in a new interview with Deadline, executive producer Jennie Urman had the following to say about what the show is doing next thematically:
“Season 4 is going to be about ‘recapturing the joy.’ The worst has happened. Jane lost Michael. And yet, she still has a lot of life to live. I want to see Jane fight for her joy, I want to see her go after her happiness, I want to see her open herself up to a new, evolved version of ‘happily ever after.'”
Will Jane be able to find that? Given that this is ultimately a happy show and a comedy, it’s hard to imagine the show venturing into darkness forever. Even in some of the sadder times for this show, there were still moments of humor here and there.
