How Grantchester season 3, The Durrells season 2 are faring leading to finale
With Sunday night being a key night of finales on ITV, how are Grantchester and The Durrells faring? Knowing this may give us a further sense as to their futures. These are both fascinate dramas with intricate characters, but it is ultimately the decision of the network to bring them back and ITV broke our hearts already with Home Fires.
While neither series, based on the most recent ratings, is hitting anything out of the park, hopefully both are performing well enough for the network to consider keeping them around for a long time to come.
The Durrells – Let’s start with this series, if for no other reason than that it airs a little bit earlier in the night. The most-recent episode of the show ended up drawing as a whole 3.9 million viewers, a drop of about 400,000 from the week below per Telly Mix. This is a show that is still drawing ratings in line with many other typical British dramas — it’s not a runaway hit like a Sherlock, but it’s fairly steady and that should be good for something.
Grantchester – Meanwhile, this mystery show lost a pretty big chunk of its audience this week, dropping around 800,000 viewers to 3.6 million. While this is hopefully enough to keep it stable for the future, you do absolutely want to see the show end on a high note! Who wants to see the series conclude in a way that doesn’t give it enough of a spotlight? We do know that there is a powerful story coming for Sidney as he has to figure out the relationship between his faith and his professional / personal life.
This new series are ending at a time when the Sunday night schedule will start to be populated with some other series, including the big return of Poldark over on the BBC. ITV does still have many other big programs coming, and they have to finish the new season of Britain’s Got Talent soon.

You must renew Grantchester for Season 4. Season 3 so far has been wonderful but heartbreaking. This series needs at least another season and beyond. All the actors in the series are wonderful. Quality TV at its best.

Enjoyed both series and miss Home Fires but really wish someone would bring back the drama series Our Zoo about the founding of Chester Zoo. I would have love to have seen what happened once the zoo opened…
