The Voice finale: About Aliyah Moulden original song ‘Never Be Lonely’
What is the overall sound of this song? It will be a little bit pop, a little bit R&B, and hopefully catchy enough to get some people to download it after the fact. One of the challenges with this show (in comparison to other singing shows that are out there) is that there is a decidedly commercial aspect to it given that so many of the artists’ future is directly related to just how well they all perform on the iTunes sales charts.
In terms of disadvantages, Aliyah is going to find herself in a reasonably similar spot to Chris Blue in that this song, while catchy, doesn’t have the obvious selling points of some of the competition. For Lauren Duski, she’s got a song she wrote herself, and therefore can forge an easy emotional connection to. Meanwhile, for Jesse Larson he has a song co-written by Chris Stapleton. These are little things that can get you more sales by default.
There is something fun and breezy about Moulden’s song, so if there are people out there who enjoy the vibe of it, it’s possible that “Never Be Lonely” will generate some sales. It also probably does help that she has the support of her coach Blake Shelton, whose artists do tend to perform well on the charts. She may have some further goodwill carried over from her cover of “I Can Only Imagine” from last week.
As for what else Aliyah is performing tonight, get ready for a duet with Blake to the classic song “Dancing in the Streets.” She does have a challenge in terms of her and her coach having such different musical sensibilities. They have to find a way in order to come together, and that is not always an easy thing to do. Her individual performance is set to a Stevie Wonder classic in “Signed Sealed Delivered” — it’s probably been over saturated over the years on singing shows, but it is well-known enough that many viewers of The Voice will find a way to lap it up.
