Jane the Virgin season 4 premiere date: When could it air on The CW?
With that said, the struggle to figure out the return date for the Gina Rodriguez series is a little more complicated than many others out there, and for a wide array of different reasons. For one, it’s moving to a different night in Fridays, one that tends to historically be programmed a little bit later in the fall than some other ones. It’s with that in mind that it wouldn’t be all that great of a shock to see the show stay off the air until the middle or end of October. This could also fluctuate depending on the episode count of the show — season 3 was only 20 episodes as opposed to the first two seasons being 22, and if the episode count drops further, this could be a factor. That’s a challenge to figure out in itself — fewer episodes means disappointment to many, but it could also allow the writers to tell a story that is tighter and stuffed full of content. Also, it gives the cast a chance to have time for other things.
So why is the show moving to Friday nights in the first place? A lot of that is tied to the fact that the show is going to be a part of a lineup that includes Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and obviously The CW wants to put the two critically-acclaimed comedies next to each other after doing that back in the fall of 2015. It could benefit the two shows somewhat; the ratings could end up being lower, but there also are fewer expectations in that timeslot. So long as the two products generate income and get positive reviews, they’re probably safe. It matters to a network like this to have shows that are not only this relevant, but also generate discussion among critics and awards-show voters.
