Gotham season 3 episode 19 spoilers: Does Lee Thompkins have the virus?

Gotham season 3 episode 19 is airing on Fox Monday night, and it looks to ask some serious questions of Lee Thompkins. Specifically, was she infected with the same virus that drove both her late husband Mario and Nathaniel Barnes into madness?

The sneak peek below from this episode is created specifically for the purpose of making you concerned, given that the main focus of it is her “waking up” from a nightmare to find Mario there. She tells him about everything that happened in between Mario’s fits of rage and Jim shooting him on the night of their wedding. At first, things get a little humorous when Mario comments that he can’t possibly be jealous of Jim because of his height. Unfortunately, they then start to get a little bit weird (or a lot weird) when Mario tells Lee to drink his blood.

What does this mean? It’s obviously a dream-within-a-dream situation that is going on here, but there are a couple of different interpretations for it. One is that Lee is infected, which is terrible news given that it doesn’t seem like getting better is an easy proposition. Another is just that she remains so afraid of being infected that she has recurring nightmares about it. Finally, it’s certainly just possible that her reality and her dreamworld are so similar that it is increasingly difficult for her to separate the two.

One way or another, it absolutely feels like Gotham season 3 episode 19 is going to be a banner installment just when it comes to presenting some crazy, exciting drama. Let’s hope now that the story lives up to the hype in this preview, and presents a final arc for this character that is worthwhile. Morena Baccarin is a very skilled performer, but there are times when Lee lingers a little too much in the background. This is a further opportunity for her to stand out and get some more time in the spotlight.

Even if this preview ultimately doesn’t mean all that much in the grand scheme of things, you can still give the producers a little bit of credit for creating something creepy enough that you’re going to remember it for a rather long time.
