Game of Thrones season 7: New photo highlights Drogon’s size

Drogon's size

Game of Thrones season 7 returns to HBO this July, and as the latest photo shows you, Drogon’s size will leave your jaw on the floor.

This image (seen below via Entertainment Weekly) effectively highlights that the dragon is far more enormous than ever before — this isn’t too much of a surprise when you think about how much Drogon and his dragon siblings have grown over the course of the series. Still, the scale of this image is shocking, as it’s more clear than ever just how big of an asset the dragons are.

Is anyone going to be able to stop Daenerys with these dragons in her arsenal? It’s clearly going to be difficult, and this is one of the things that is so interesting entering season 7. For many years, part of the drama of the show was that she felt like such an underdog to eventually become the Queen of Westeros. Now, it feels like she’s a frontrunner and nothing really stands in her way of taking King’s Landing. In the wake of everything that happened in The Winds of Winter, it may be fair to say that King’s Landing is in a state of disarray. It’s hard to imagine Cersei Lannister standing a chance against Daenerys, her army, her new apparent alliance with Dorne, and also the strategy skills of one Tyrion Lannister on her side. If anyone can point out the vulnerabilities of King’s Landing, it is Tyrion, who fought there in the Battle of Blackwater.

Note that all of these advantages come without even mentioning where the North factors into everything — it’s probably a little too early to tell where things will lie there.

The overwhelming nature of a potential battle here may further highlight that so many of us have been misguided when it comes to what the main focus of the series effectively is. All of the battles for the Iron Throne may be a distraction from the real threat that is the White Walkers. There are so many of them, and their powers and abilities so mysterious, that these beings could be the one thing to stop the dragons, the armies, and anything else thrown their way. There’s no confirmation of pretty much anything at present, but it feels like stopping them will be a focus for a potential Game of Thrones season 8.
