The Bachelorette spotlight: Will wrestler Kenny King be tough enough to win here?

Kenny King

Kenny King is not the first wrestler to appear on The Bachelorette — remember Justin “Rated R” Rego? With that said, he’s a little different. King is not seemingly entering this competition to be a villain, or to stir up trouble based on earlier indications.

Instead, King looks to be one of those contestants who has a crazy job, but underneath that and all of the other layers is a pretty nice guy just looking to have a little bit more love in his life.

The big thing that makes the 35-year old stand out is that he is a parent, and has a relationship with his daughter that he cherishes greatly. This may show a different, loving side to Rachel Lindsay that she appreciates. If nothing else, it will help him to stand out even more in the early pack beyond just being a guy who throws people around in a wrestling ring for a living. (It’s probably good to be memorable for something else other than just this.)

One thing that is going to prove interesting over the course of the season is gauging some of King’s fame and how much the other contestants know about this. He is a former Tough Enough contestant, and therefore knows the reality TV circuit better than most. He also has over 56,000 Twitter followers already, which gives him a little more of a strong foundation of support than many other contestants have on this show. In a vacuum, social media support shouldn’t matter going into a season like this. The big problem when it comes to that is that people will automatically assume “there for the wrong reasons.” That isn’t necessarily the case here. His job probably doesn’t lend that much time for serious dating, especially if he has to travel often for work.

Will Kenny be a major player this season? Possibly. If nothing else, expect him to be a big personality, and with his job and history it feels fair to anticipate that he is probably going to be a contestant on Bachelor in Paradise when it airs on ABC this summer, provided that this is something he wants to do. (Unfortunately, it’s hard to imagine Kenny winning — people in entertainment professions + single parents rarely do.)
