Supernatural season 12 finale: Is Mark Sheppard or Misha Collins leaving?
Specifically, the show set up not just one, but possibly two different deaths over the course of the final hour. First, Crowley in a rare moment of heroism decided to stab himself in order to properly exile Lucifer. However, we also saw Lucifer put the angel blade right through Castiel, which means that he is also seemingly dead, as well.
Is it possible that either Mark Sheppard or Misha Collins could be leaving the show after being a part of it for so many years? It’s possible in theory, but in practice, it’s an entirely different story. While neither party may have been rooted in the foundation of the show, they are main components now. It’s hard to imagine the show without them. They don’t appear in every episode, but when they do, they add so much more to the show in terms of its flair, its humor, and its history.
Unfortunately, it may not be until the middle of the summer when you start to get some indication as to whether or not the two of them could be coming back. The thing that everyone does need to remember, though, is this: This is Supernatural. If there was ever going to be a show that managed to bring some character back from the dead in a crazy / insane fashion, it’s probably going to be this one. Therefore, don’t give up on hope for the two parties just yet. Neither Collins nor Sheppard have addressed the status on their characters on social media since the finale ended. Even if they don’t return as regulars for whatever reason (which would be sad), fingers crossed the they will come back to life and find a different way to be a part of the show.
The one thing that is worth saying before concluding is this: What happened to Crowley and Castiel didn’t feel like the end for the two characters. It’s different from what happened to Bobby, as his exit truly felt like the end.

It’s not very probable, that either of these characters is gone for good. Misha Collins is credited in 2 new TV shows for one episode each only (so he is not a recurring character there), Mark Sheppard isn’t credited at all. With all the production cycles, casting time etc. they both should have appeared in production news already if they were leaving supernatural for good.
And: the show itself left us with so many plot holes where we could not see the characters right up to the moments leading to their (supposed) deaths, it is quite likely that the writers find a number of explanations for whatever we believe to have seen.

they will be back, since it was an alternate “Earth” portal, there will be some kind of loophole where their essence will be brought back over

It crushed me watching Lucifer kill Cas?

I hope both Mark Sheppard and Misha Collins will be back next season. I really do cause they way they killed Cas was not evem heroic it was stupid and his character deserves more than that. Thats why I don’t think he’ll stay dead. Cas had a connection to Lucifers son maybe he has the power and will bring Cas back

I think they’ll both be back. I think the Cas killed was from the alternate universe. He acted a little off. As for Crowley, he’s a tricky devil. As much as I love the show, without Cas, I’m gone.

Supernatural wouldn’t be the same without Mark Sheppard. I am completely over the character Castiel, but won’t be surprised when they bring him back, yawn. I hope that with Mary in the alternate universe we will be seeing much more of Bobby though. Rowena was a surprise loss, but am hoping that she had some bad a$$ spell put in place to counter her own death, then she can bring back my beloved Crowley.

You know just because someone says something you perceive as negative doesn’t make them a “hater”.?

Although I would love for this to be the end of Castiel – the character seem stuck in a rut over the last several seasons where he betrays-repents -redeems over and over again without ever learning from it– I doubt it is. I am less sure about Crowley although I hope he comes back — I would miss Mark. Glad Jody survived another season! Where was Clair tonight? Nobody even mentioned her — did the BMOL kill her off during a commercial break? So very glad Lady Tony, Ketch and Hess are gone!

I wondered about the Clare thing too, did she meet Alex at the safe house? Also I was going to riot if they killed Jody.

I explained my issue with the character . I don’t hate him I’m just bored with him. He’s had the same plot since Season 6: he betrays someone: the Winchesters, humanity, the angels — either because he’s been tricked into it or he thinks it’s the best thing –. It blows up in his face and he feels massive guilt for what he did, then he does something to redeem himself which is usually self destructive. And most frustrating –unlike Sam and Dean he never learns from his mistakes, he just jumps into the next mess. Naomi. Leviathans. Angels. Metatron. Lucifer. Lucifer baby/Kelly. Yawn. And I don’t find MC so fascinating that I can overlook the shortcomings of his character. If the writers can’t think of something new to do with Castiel he might as well stay dead — not that I think that will happen. They’ll bring him back somehow I just hope they make him interesting again when they do.

Wow! That’s so heartbreaking you wish Cas to stay dead! Cas is my Hero and always will be! It killed me watching Lucifer kill him! Well, what I hate are the females, except Rowena. We just have different likes I guess.

I think Castiel is going to be saved by the kid personally.

I really don’t. The reason being because the guy in the end…he had this evil look on his face that says “you’re all screwed”.

Either that or he could be still be alive in the other reality in which case, it would be a bad ass Cas that isn’t friendly with the Winchesters.

it still wouldn’t be Cas, just like that AR Bobby wasn’t really Bobby. I do agree though, that Castiel’s character development lately, and for all of this season, has been shallow at best. Season 12 to me felt like a mishmash of ideas. Mary, BMoL,Princes of hell, The Colt, a Space/Time Rift, the nephalem, The Witch Hunters, with Lucifer thrown in for some flare. even the Vampire Alpha death felt out of place. Why have all of these things? What did the British Men of Letters even do this season? And what is the consequence that Sam/Dean were supposed to have happen to them if they cheated their deal with Billie? nothing came of it.

Agreed but a Cas that is fully powered and has no affiliations to the Winchester might be the best way to go with the character who seems kind of played out now.

Please bring back Crowley and Castiel…and, if possible, Rowena – they are such great characters and do help our boys over and over again. I also want to thank the writers for not killing off Jody – that was a wonderful plus.
