The Blacklist season 5 premiere date: When will James Spader return?
Unfortunately, there is not too much in the way of verified news as to when the show will be back in terms of specific dates. As for suggested dates, there is a good bit of information to hand down. The first thing to say on this subject is that The Blacklist is moving to Wednesday night for the first time, where it will air at a new time in 8:00 p.m. Eastern. This is also the earliest at night the show has aired since it first premiered many years ago.
So why the frequent moves, given that it was only a little over a year ago that the show first moved to 10:00 on Thursday? The ratings are one factor in that, given that this is a show that is not exactly pulling in great live numbers. Yet, there is clearly enough value in it that NBC wants to try it in a spot where it could perform better. They are likely looking at some of the pretty-tremendous DVR ratings that exist for the show and think that airing it earlier in the night will be a way to convince more of these viewers to check the show out live. Maybe this will work and the show will provide an upgrade in the timeslot that NBC was not quite getting back when Blindspot was airing in this timeslot during the 2017-18 season.
Will this be the final season for The Blacklist? Classify this under “too early to tell,” but there is reason to think that the show will want to order more beyond season 5 given that there is such a deep mythology, and as a result of that, so much drama that the show could still cultivate. All they really need is to give James Spader some great material with Megan Boone, and introduce some new bag guys in order for the team to be able to take down. Given what’s existed in the second half of this season with Mr. Kaplan, there’s a reason to be excited for everything that is coming up … though the expectations are certainly through the roof.
For now, circle either September 20 or September 27 as a potential premiere date.
